Rosetta's Daring Day (A Stepping Stone Book(TM))
By Lisa Papademetriou

Rosetta and Fawn are complete opposites. Rosetta loves fancy dresses and flowers. Fawn would rather go on adventures with her animal friends. Then the queen throws a fancy dinner, and Fawn decides she doesn’t want to go. So Rosetta makes a deal with her. If Fawn dresses up for the dinner and minds her manners, Rosetta will spend a day doing whatever Fawn wants. Rosetta thinks it’s the perfect plan. But she never imagined just what Fawn would want to do! Can their friendship survive a day of frogs, mud, and . . . worms?

Opposites compliment one another's strengths "Rosetta's Daring Day" Written by Lisa Papademetriou Illustrated by Judith Holmes Clarke, Adrienne Brown & Charles Pickens (Disney/Random House, 2009) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Two Pixie Hollow fairies, one a sporty tomboy and the other a total Miss Priss make-up queen, spend the week together and learn to appreciate each other's strengths. Rosetta, the girly-girl learns the most: in addition to being vain, she is also self-absorbed, and doesn't help out with communal projects as much as she should -- by the book's end, she starts thinking more about others, although neither character is called on to completely change who they are or the way they see the world. As with all the Pixie Hollow books, this promotes both individual self-worth and social interdependence, and while it's not exactly "great literature", it is involving enough, and not too scary for younger readers (if that's a concern). Pretty femme, but worth checking out. (Joe Sixpack, ReadThatAgain children's media reviews) Wonderful Book for kids My 7 year old loves the fairy books and this is one of her favorites. A well written exciting book that kept her reading way past her bedtime. Back to Pixie Hollow Rosetta was a garden-talent fairy who loved beautiful things -- flowers and frilly dresses and delicate petal shoes. She hated to get dirty. In her flower patch, everything was in perfect order. Her friend Fawn was just the opposite. Fawn was a rough-and-tumble animal-talent fairy who loved playing acorn ball and talking to animals. In this Pixie Hollow story, the two friends agree to each spend a day doing what the other wants. The characters are so stereotypical that it becomes annoying to read. Rosetta's sudden and complete change of attitude, and willingness to get slimy and dirty at the end of the book is hard to believe, but little girls will love another Disney fairy story. Ages 6-8.
